It is the purpose of the Animal Control Division to insure a safe coexistence between animals and people and to:
  • Educate the citizens of Stafford on proper care, bite prevention, rabies control, and disaster preparedness
  • Enforce the comprehensive animal laws of the commonwealth of Virginia and Stafford County
  • Humanely provide for the animals that come into our care at the pound

To check if your dog has been picked up today, please contact the Stafford County Information line at (540) 658-4636 and press four for the list of dogs brought in.

Animal Control Officers are available Monday 7am-5:30pm; Tuesday-Friday 7am-8:30pm; Saturday & Sunday 7:30am-4pm.  Officers may be dispatched via (540) 658-7387 or (540) 658-4440.  Officers are available for emergency calls as determined by protocol 24 hours a day.

2014 Rabies Clinic
Stafford County Animal Control is hosting a Rabies Clinic at the Stafford County Government Center on Saturday, April 26th, 2014, 9:00 a.m. to noon. The cost is $7 per rabies vaccination. Animals must be at least 4 months of age, and both dogs and cats are welcome. A limited quantity of rabies tags are available, so be sure to pre-register in the Treasurer’s Office prior to the day of the clinic.
